This seems to be one of the least talked years in deaddom. Everyone knows about 7-2 @ Oxford but how about the rest of the year. SPAC on 6-28 had a great second set. Right now I'm streaming 3-27 and this Scarlet is smokin! can anybody recommend some hidden treasure from the year that was 1988?

Robony! Great subject. I've been meaning to say exactly the same thing for awhile. I have a few good ones on tape but I haven't listened to them in a long time so my memory gets hazy. But the few that are burned in my brain ( besides the 7-2-88 Oxford Plains you mentioned )are

7-29-88 and 7-30-88 - both excellent shows and the aud's sound incredible. They sound like Matrix to me as there is very little crowd noise and the instruments are all up front in the mix. Check out Phils Bass especially. Better watch your speakers on this one

7-17-88 not too many people talk about this one but check out space>gdtrfb - great combo and the Watchtower is the best version I've ever heard. Weir is possessed

4-1-88 SMOKIN cumberland>Deal to close out the first set

4-30-88 - Frost. China>Rider as an encore! Special

the June Alpine run is pretty good too but weren't they all pretty much?

check out 03-16-1988 people talk about the raging fire but the playin' is great

03-31-1988 fantastic scarlet>fire (maybe the best one of the year)...samson and terrapin are great...

03-27-1988 mentioned above but maybe the best second set of the year...

02-16-1988 short set features Good Morning Little Schoolgirl

04-01-1988 nice first set (with balad of a thin man)...Estimated in second set...

09-03-1988 Ripple encore

12-31-1988 West LA and Rooster with Mick Taylor in first set...

07-29-1988 legendary Laguna Seca show...huge Playin'

07-02/ 07-03-1988 nice 2 show stand

Don't forget 3/16/88, possibly the hottest Scarlet>Fire of all-time. 7/31/88 is another hidden gem, with some rarities and a monster Dew. 4/30/88 has a sick Shakedown and a unique encore. Too bad there are no good downloadable recordings for so many of 1988's best shows.

1988 was a big year for me. Received a Sony-D6 and a pair of mics from my Dad just before summer tour. Changed my whole show experience.

Good shows I remember from that year...

All three of the Hamptons in the spring were very good.

6.23- Alpine Valley. After the train wreck the night before, they came on strong with a grate 2nd set including the first Believe it or Not, smokin post drums, and encored with Blackbird > Brokedown.

6.30 - Rochester. Green Onions Jam to open set 2. Very high energy set.

9.3 - Cap Centre. Strong 1st set and Ripple encore.

10.15 & 16 - Bayfront, St. Petersburg FL. Fall break in Florida. Both good solid shows.

Just my 2 cents... it was almost 20 years ago, ya know?!?
